From Publishers Weekly
Bestseller Feehan’s steamy and dreamy 18th Carpathian novel (after 2006′s Dark Celebration) explores the erotic allure of ancient shape-shifters, Brazilian rain forests and vampires. Manuel Manolito De La Cruz, one of those dark, irresistible Carpathian hunks who can only thrive with one woman by his side, has found his life mate in MaryAnn Delaney, a Seattle counselor for battered women who flies to his Brazilian family compound to help a pregnant rape victim. It takes a while for MaryAnn to accept Manolito’s love, as Feehan, with her usual expertise, draws out the foreplay between the two. Feverish jungle encounters with Jaguar-men and MaryAnn’s shocking discovery of her inner werewolf add spice, while growing tensions in the Carpathian world create other problems. Feehan’s combo platter of danger, fantasy and wild, uninhibited romance continues to sizzle. (Aug.)

Zen and the Art of Vampires

I just got through reading Zen and the Art of Vampires and being a fan of Katie MacAlister‘s I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this  addition to the Dark Ones series and can’t wait to see how the story progresses in Crouching Vampire, Hidden Fang: A Dark Ones Novel but unfortunately I’ll have to wait until May.

Pia Thomason takes a single’s tour through Europe but at her stop in Iceland (of all places) she encounters a few problems along with couple very hunky vampires named Alec & Kristoff.

Zen and the Art of Vampires is a fun tale that will have you alternately laughing & sighing and possibly even wishing you were Pia.  I mean who wouldn’t want a sexy, sensual vampire to lust after her?

From Publishers Weekly
Prolific Feehan (Dark Melody, etc.) continues her supernatural Dark series with this 13th installment, the first to feature a female Carpathian. Though Carpathians roam the streets at night and gain strength from feeding on blood, they only kill evildoers and vampires. Transformed into a night creature when she was a child, Destiny is unlike any of Feehan’s previous heroines. Her physical strength is equal to that of her Carpathian counterpart, Nicolae Von Shrieder, but she’s horrified by what she is and haunted by memories of her parents’ brutal murder. Nicolae merged his mind with hers when she was first transformed, and through their mental connection, he taught her how to survive. Now Nicolae must find Destiny and make her his lifemate, or he will succumb to darkness and become a vampire. Feehan’s protagonists and prose can be overwrought (“His body was hard and full, aching for her…. and deep within, the crouching beast lifted its head and roared for release”), and inconsistencies litter the text (Destiny can supposedly read Nicolae’s mind, but it takes her eons to trust him and stop threatening to kill him). However, the story has sufficient sensuality to keep readers sated, and fans should appreciate Feehan’s unusual pairing of two Carpathians.

Dark Symphony

From Publishers Weekly
Feehan’s followers will be well sated by the latest addition to her Dark series (after Dark Guardian), set in modern-day Italy. This time around the focus is on Carpathian vampire hunter Byron Justicano, a “good” vampire who feeds only to sustain himself. He is drawn to the haunting music created by Italian concert pianist, Antonietta Scarletti, the woman he has chosen to be his “lifemate.” Blinded and orphaned as a child by an explosion on the family yacht, Antonietta, a strong psychic, is heir to the Scarletti family fortune and the massive Scarletti palazzo, which accommodates all her relatives. When Byron learns that someone within the family is siphoning off the family treasures and slowly poisoning Antonietta, her grandfather and her cousin, he draws upon his supernatural powers to catch the villain. Feehan’s prose is smoothly laced with romance and erotica, and the subject matter is titillating. But new readers may be daunted by the complexity of the Carpathian world, which has its own set of rules (e.g., Carpathian males can mate for life only with mortals who are psychic, and if they don’t mate, they lose their emotions). Once readers gain a foothold in Feehan’s fictional realm, however, they’ll be roped in by this unconventional and intriguing installment.
